Recently we sailed on the Eurodam heading to the Bahamas for 3-Nights.  The ship was absolutely beautiful.  Between the artwork, furnishings and the fresh flower arrangements she is definately an esquite ship.  The sailing we were on had a few hiccups in the service, food and entertainment.  Prior to our embarkation, we found out that over 700 of the staff members were switched out.  I am imagining because they didn't meet Holland America's service standards, that is only a guess.  The food on the ship was very good, but not great in some instances.  The food on the Lido deck was delicious and there was a huge variety to choose from.  The service was also a definate Wow.  One of my friends who is also an ower of a franchise, was wowed when one of the servers brought her a bottle of wine, her favorite kind without any request from any of us.  He still can't figure out how he knew.  We are assuming that it was just a great guess.  The dining room service was not as personable as we are use to, however I am sure it has a lot to do with a new staff.  We attempted to see the shows, however on the first night they lost power to the stage area and had to cancel.  We found most of our entertainment with Bob at the Piano Bar.  We became regulars, he was very good and entertaining and if you didn't get there early it was standing room only.  One of my clients who sailed on this ship (first sailing in the U.S) had this to say:

"We did take a 4 day cruise over Labor Day- it was terrific!"

It is not the fanciest ship we have been on- but the staff is very nice and attentive- mostly Filipino or Indonesian- plus- we had a full bathtub in the room- we don't use a tub but it was a very comfortable shower- not the usual tight squeeze.  The food was particularly good- this was not spa food- the portions were restaurant size- the entertainment was good- but some of the shows were the usual cruise variety type. We belong to an organization called the World Ship Society so we had a special cocktail hour and a special lecture one day. There was plenty to do- I even took computer classes about online photos. We sat at dinner with really lovely people too- we asked for a table for 8.

We took the same type cruise over 4th of July last year on the QM2-and although the ship was truly gorgeous, it was not as well organized and the staff was all business- no sense of humor. We enjoyed this Eurodam much more.

Keep in mind that we were on this ship as a continuation of our convention and a lot of our time was taken up by seminars.  I know that I would sail again with Holland America and on the Eurodam, just not in the next 20 years.  This cruise line still seems to hold the reputation that attracts an older generation.    Here are some photos I was able to grab from cruisereviewsonline.com:

The Retreat: Your own private oasis located high above the rest...the Eurodam's Retreat cabanas are the ultimate place to relax surrounded by healthy refreshments and luxurious amenities. This is a pay-per-day feature.  Retreat cabanas are $55 on port days and $75 on sea days. Less expensive Lido cabanas are $30 on port day and $50 on sea days

Cabanas: The Eurodam's new private cabanas are available to reserve by the day or by the cruise. Available on two decks, they are tastefully decorated, filled with amenities and provide an exquisite poolside retreat.
